TEC Chair: Small Business Program
As a former chartered accountant, and senior partner in global accounting and consulting practice Deloitte, I bring over 30 years of professional and practical business experience to the role of a TEC Chair.
I forged a career as a professional advisor to large corporates, and as managing partner for the tax consulting practice of Deloitte in New Zealand, and Asia Pacific. From 1990 I was a member of the National Management Committee (NMC) for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in New Zealand, and from 1996 with additional roles as partner, responsible for business solutions, information management solutions, and mid-market marketing.
From 1999 to 2002, I was responsible for leading Deloitte Ventures, with a special focus on technology ventures. This Deloitte Venture Initiative formed part of Deloitte’s global Emerging Strategic Client program. My specialist area of interest is in strategic and operational planning for high tech ventures, and the practical aspects of venture formation
In June 2002, I co-founded Ignition Partner Limited to advise companies on strategies for growth from innovation, with an emphasis on strategy, capability and commitment. In 2005 I was appointed as an expert reviewer for the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology and has held several advisory board and directorship roles with emerging companies.
After 20 years as a senior partner in a professional services firm, responsible for large teams of highly qualified and capable professionals, I developed wide practical experience in coaching and mentoring individuals to realise their potential
Often the key issues are not to do with one’s own ability, but to do with confidence in the ability of those around you, and the confidence they have in you. The essential tools for success include a goal, a plan, a sense of humour, and optimism; of course, with optimism comes perseverance.
