TEC Mentor Joe Foster

Joe is an experienced CEO who ran multiple large companies over a 13 year period and has managed his own successful consultancy since 2007. He is an expert in the areas of leadership development, cultural transformation and creating high performance teams.

In 1993 Joe was asked to move from his native United States to Australia by Jon Huntsman, a leading American businessman and philanthropist; and Kerry Packer, one of Australia’s leading businessmen and entrepreneurs. The two men had formed a joint venture to own the 2nd largest petrochemical operation in Australasia and Joe was appointed its first managing director.  After a successful turnaround of Huntsman, Joe was appointed the first Australian managing director for Corporate Express (a public company) and in 2001 the Managing Director of the Edwards Dunlop Group.

Joe’s real passion is working with people in leadership positions and enabling them to become the most capable leaders possible. So in 2007 he founded Strategic Momentum Group which specialises in working with senior leaders in solving their complex problems and enhancing their leadership skills using the latest findings in social cognitive neuroscience combined with his experience and practical ‘hands on’ approach.

Joe’s strengths include the ability to solve complex problems with a practical hands-on approach. He is comfortable dealing with ambiguity and is a calm and effective leader in a time of crisis. His passion for understanding what leaders are going through and to be able to guide them is a fundamental reason for his success and the success of his company.
